The most prestigious race in NASCAR, the Daytona 500 is held at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida and is the first race of the NASCAR season each February. Inspired by the thrill seeking Dayton Beach drivers who would race down the sand, “Big Bill” France sought to organize the sport. In 1957, France built the Daytona Motor Speedway so that fans could see the whole race and founded the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing to get drivers together. The Daytona 500 is a grueling 200 laps, making up 500 miles that test the true skill of every driver in the field providing fans with some of the most thrilling races in NASCAR.
